Oswald Chambers wrote, "whenever our faith is not in God and in Him alone, there is still an illusion somewhere." In this book, he challenges those illusions, those presuppositions about the God of Heaven that may be hindering us in our Christian walk or relationship with Him.
"Men may partake of the blessings of God and yet never come into relationship with Him." ~Oswald Chambers
Through these 48 sermons that were preached to audiences of every nationality, age, and background over many years in several different countries, Oswald Chambers unwaveringly points to the Lord as our place of help.
Each sermon is packed with practical applications for building or restoring our relationship to God. And once we can see God in the proper light of His Word, we will be able to relate to situations and people around us in the way that God intended.
As you read this book, you will be able to clearly see those areas of your life where your faith may be fading or lacking. The author does not believe in simply knowing the right things about God or about our circumstances, so he asks in some way in every sermon: are you living what you believe?
"We name His Name, but is He the Truth to us in our bodily life, in our commonsense life, in our intellectual and emotional life?"
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. ~Psalm 121:1-2
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish Baptist evangelist and teacher as well as a gifted musician and artist. As a young man, he was already known for his deep spiritual insights, and as a result, became a remarkably talented preacher. He also founded a Bible college in London, England— from which nearly half of the students who graduated went on to serve as missionaries around the world.
In his last two years on earth, he served as a YMCA chaplain in Cairo, Egypt, during World War I. While there, he had the opportunity to touch countless soldiers’ lives and introduced them all to the saving grace of Jesus Christ by his unusual preaching style and his service.
The perhaps “unsung hero” of his story was his wife Gertrude who was an incredibly talented lady (she could take shorthand at 250 words per minute!). It is thanks to Gertrude that we have the works of Oswald Chambers today, as she worked tirelessly after his death to publish all of his sermons and lessons into over 30 books, and some are still widely read by Christians today, such as The Place of Help and My Utmost for His Highest.
